100% Pure Merino Wool
Merino wool is a renewable fibre which means that it is able to replace itself naturally on its own. As long as there is grass for the sheep to eat, and water for them to drink, then their fleece will grow every year. Merino wool has plenty of highly desirable properties that make it an excellent choice for clothing. Our Merino wool is certified RWS(Responsible Wool Standard), which means that our wool farmers treat their sheep with respect and follow ethical practices. Our Merino wool weighs 220 gsm(grams per square metre), and each fibre is 18.5 microns(very fine and soft). At Simply Merino we do not chemically treat our garments in any way during or after the manufacturing process. We are proud that all of our products are natural and organic.
Hypo-Allergenic
Unlike other types of wool, Merino wool is static resistant, meaning it attracts fewer dust particles and lint making it ideal for babies and infants with allergies. Many people have suggested that Merino wool also reduces the symptoms of eczema.
Naturally Fire Resistant
Merino wool is naturally fire resistant. Unless mentioned, all children's pyjamas(up to size 14) are chemically treated to be fire retardant. The skin absorbs everything, including harsh chemicals from clothing.
Incredibly Soft
Merino wool has exceptional levels of comfort. The secret lies within the extremely small diameter of the individual Merino fibres which range from 13 to 24 microns - an impressive figure when you consider that the diameter of the average human hair is 60 microns. The exceptional softness of Merino wool clothing often takes people by surprise. This eliminates any itchiness or prickling sensations against sensitive young skin - a must for children's clothing.
Wicks Away Moisture
Merino wool is breathable and wicks away moisture, keeping a child dry and warm. Wool fibres can absorb large quantities of moisture vapour then move it away to evaporate into the air. This quality is especially important when your little one is potty-training as the wool will keep them much dryer than any other fabric.
Regulates Body Temperature
Merino wool offers many health benefits to babies and infants. The heat regulation properties inherent Merino wool creates a temperature controlled cocoon around a sleeping child resulting in a more restful sleep. It can take up to 1 year for newborns to be able to regulate their own body temperature and overheating babies can tragically fall victim to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). Merino wool has been shown to reduce the incidence of SIDS in sleeping babies thanks to its moisture absorption and temperature regulation properties.
Machine Washable
Merino wool breathes better than any other fabric, and it naturally resists the build-up of odours. This results in less need for washing, yay! When washing we suggest washing on delicate cycle, and hang to dry. Not necessary, but you can also use wool approved liquid detergent such as NikWax.
Durable
Merino wool's natural durability makes it an ideal choice for kids clothing - studies have shown that Merino wool fibres can be bent up to 30,000 times without breaking. This essentially means that clothes made from Merino wool will stand up to repeated washings without looking old and worn out. Merino wool is also naturally odour and stain resistant - an important factor when it comes to children's garments.
